Sanford fit, the Children’s Health Initiative from Sanford Health, announced it was recognized in the National Health Information Awards with awards for 2 of their popular activity kits. Sanford fit was developed to empower children and families to make healthy lifestyle choices. The program is grounded on four pillars essential to building awareness of healthy lifestyle choices, guiding decision-making, and improving self-management skills. The program provides free, online, educational materials designed to captivate children’s attention, educate them about important health topics, and activate healthy behaviors.
The annual National Health Information Awards® recognizes high-quality consumer health information. Sanford fit earned a Gold Certificate in the Booklet/Brochure/Pamphlet category in the Health Promotion/Disease and Injury Prevention Information class for “Preparing Your Child For Their Doctor Visit: A Printable Activity Kit.” The program also earned a Bronze certificate in the same category for “The Power of You Activity Book.” Both activity kits are available for free in English and Spanish.
“We were delighted to receive certificates in our first time participating in the National Health Information Awards competition, and we're honored to be selected as a Gold winner in the Booklet/Brochure/Pamphlet category,” said Amy Baete, the Director of Sanford fit. “Providing effective, easily accessible, and expert tools and information is important for the families and children we serve. We are very proud to offer valuable and practical health and wellness resources to families and educators around the world."
As child and adolescent mental health continues to be a national priority, resources like the Activity Kit for Preparing Your Child for Their Doctor Visit and "The Power of You Activity Book" remain impactful. The "Preparing Your Child For Their Doctor Visit: A Printable Activity Kit" was intentionally created to promote the importance of regular well child visits as health care providers saw a decrease in the number of regular check-ups in the months following the pandemic. The kit is designed to not only highlight the importance of well child visits but also to give caregivers practical tips on how their child can feel prepared and calm before and during a doctor’s visit. The Power of You is a special activity book created to help kids and families cope, learn, and grow together.
The production and design of the "Preparing Your Child For Their Doctor Visit: A Printable Activity Kit" and "The Power of You Activity Book" was a collaborative effort between Sanford Health’s patient education team, immunization strategy experts, and Sanford fit’s team comprised of Amy Baete, Brittney Nathan, Shelby Huber, Katrina Lien, Annie Farmer, and Lara Thiem.
The Health Information Resource CenterSM (HIRC), the organizer of the National Health Information Awards, is a national information clearinghouse for professionals who work in consumer health fields.
