Lesson
Teach kids the importance of movement and activities to keep them moving.
The lessons in this unit present the four parts of fit—recharge, mood, food, and move—and how they connect and support a healthy lifestyle. Students will learn that having a fit mindset is about having enough energy and the motivation to make healthy nutrition and physical activity choices. Encourage healthy choices throughout the day by downloading the Healthy Choice Posters and the ABCs of a Healthy Me for your classroom or hallway!
Play a modified game of Simon Says so that all students are moving throughout the game. Direct the kids to do different movements with their bodies. For example, jump 3 times in one spot. If a child misses the Simon Says cue, they take a step backward and continue play. Next, discuss why movement is important.

Move Your Body
Tell students that “move” is physical activity. Moving strengthens muscles, bones, and brain. Remind students that anything that gets them up and active is a fit move. Moving is easy when you make it fun!
Check for understanding: How can you move your body?
Move to the Music
Play the song, Put a Little Move in Your Day.
Students stand and dance around for the duration of the song. Have them listen for examples of ways to put a little move in your day!
Today we learned how easy and simple it is to make the fit choice to move our bodies. Next, we will review what it means to be fit.
