Lesson
We make choices all day long. Let’s help kids identify times during the day when they make choices and practice giving reasons why they made certain choices.
First and foremost, fit is about choices. Each day a child, no matter their age, makes many choices that impact their health and well-being. The lessons in this unit build awareness of the many moments each day when they can make a choice, then empowers them to make the best choice—the fit choice! Print and display the fit Posters to support healthy decision-making involving recharge, mood, food, and move.
Act out making a simple choice (e.g., hold up a red and a blue marker, say, “Hmm,” and then draw with the blue one). Ask students to describe what you did (you made a choice!) and brainstorm possible reasons for your choice (e.g., you like blue; it’s dark and easier to see; the other one was dried up; etc.). Summarize your choice in a complete sentence: “I chose [the blue marker] because _______.”
