We make choices all day long. Let’s help kids identify times during the day when they make choices and practice giving reasons why they made certain choices.
First and foremost, fit is about choices. Each day a child, no matter their age, makes many choices that impact their health and well-being. The lessons in this unit build awareness of the many moments each day when they can make a choice, then empowers them to make the best choice—the fit choice!
Act out making a simple choice (e.g., hold up a red and a blue marker, say, “Hmm,” and then draw with the blue one). Ask students to describe what you did (you made a choice!) and brainstorm possible reasons for your choice (e.g., you like blue; it’s dark and easier to see; the other one was dried up; etc.). Summarize your choice in a complete sentence: “I chose [the blue marker] because _______.”
Follow along with the slideshow as you continue the lesson.

Times We Make ChoicesEngage your learners by asking them about the choices they make each day. Draw learners’ attention to the first slide. Ask them to think about what they choose to wear, eat, and do throughout their day. Have fun this by asking silly questions that inspire silly answers!
Reasons We Make ChoicesAsk students to describe some of their choices. Explain that with fit, you will be talking a lot about choices, especially healthy choices.
Sharing the Choices We make
Students share with a partner three choices they will make after school, then identify which ones will be healthy choices.
