Create FAMILY FUN! Cut out labels and attach to a jar to craft your own Family Fun Jar, Adventure Jar, Rainy Day Jar, Calming Jar, or Affirmation Jar. Choose from a variety of family-friendly activities and create lasting memories with your kids!
Finding moments to genuinely connect as a family is not always easy. With work, school, errands, and after-school commitments pulling everyone in different directions, quality time often takes a backseat. But even a few minutes of focused, intentional time together each day can have a powerful impact on your child’s emotional health, sense of security, and overall development.
Spending meaningful time together, no matter how big or small the activity, builds connection, trust, and lasting memories. According to Brittney Nathan, CCLS and Lead Program Development Specialist at Sanford fit, “Busy schedules can sometimes leave little wiggle room for quality family time, however, these interactions (big or small) are meaningful and beneficial for both kids and caregivers! Kids feel valued, and more inclined to openly communicate with caregivers who pause and take the time to intentionally interact with them.” Brittney also explains that quality family time helps kids develop essential life skills, learn by example, and grow emotionally in a safe, loving environment.
What is a Family Fun Jar?
A Family Fun Jar is a container – like a mason jar, bowl, or box – filled with simple activity ideas written on small pieces of paper. Anytime you are looking for something fun to do together, just pull an idea from the jar and enjoy the moment! To help you get started, we have created this FREE DIY kit! Just print, cut, and stick the labels onto jars or bowls – and you are ready to go!
Our printable includes labels for four unique themed jars, each designed to inspire a different kind of fun or connection. Choose the one that fits your family’s mood or make all four to keep things fresh and exciting!
1. Adventure Jar
For big outings or small explorations, this jar is all about discovering new places and making memories. Fill it with ideas like visiting a new park, going on a hike, or trying a fun weekend activity together.
2. Calming Jar
Perfect for those moments when your family needs to slow down and recharge. Add peaceful activities like reading together, doing a puzzle, coloring, or listening to calming music.
3. Rainy Day Jar
Do not let a gloomy day get you down! Fill this jar with cozy indoor fun ideas like building a fort, cooking your favorite meal, playing a board game, or watching a favorite movie.
4. Affirmation Jar
Start the day on a positive note or offer a little encouragement when someone needs it. Add uplifting affirmations, kind words, or inspiring quotes to this jar to help boost confidence and brighten moods.
How to Create Your Family Fun Jar:
Once your Family Fun Jar is ready, set aside a regular time each week for everyone to come together and choose an activity from the Family Fun Jar. Whether it is a weekend morning or a quiet evening after dinner, having dedicated family time builds consistency and connection. To make it even more special, invite your kids to help come up with new ideas each week to add to the jar – they’ll love having a say in the fun, and it encourages creativity and collaboration!
